I think all could agree that mold in a bathroom is undesirable and gross. Not only is mold something you don't want to look at, it can even lead to serious health issues if it is not taken care of. For these reasons, I wanted to share a few insights into mold in a bathroom and how to resolve it PERMANANTLY!

What causes mold to grow?

Mold is a fungus that needs three simple things to grow - moisture, air, and food.  Mold spores exist all around us in the air and are circulated until they settle in a place where they can grow. Most often mold begins to grow in environments that are warm and moist and on porous surfaces. If you think about places in the home where these conditions are most prevalent, you are probably picturing your own bathroom.

Why is mold usually found on my walls and tile grout?

Mold finds it food in the form of dead organic matter, which can be found in drywall and tile grout. These porous surfaces also retain water long after the shower has been turned off, allowing mold to begin to form.

Is there a way to prevent mold from growing in my bathroom?

Yes, there are a few things you can do to prevent mold from growing in your bathroom. First, Good ventilation will help the warm moist air to circulate out of the bathroom reducing the likelihood of mold growth. Second, if you have tile in your shower or surrounding your bathtub, you will need to scrub it regularly with harsh cleansers like bleach to keep mold from growing.

Using non-porous surfaces is an easier way to combat mold

Of course there is an easier way than scrubbing your tile all of the time. Using non-porous cultured marble surfaces in your shower or as a bathtub surround gives you these benefits when it comes to mold:

  • It's non-porous surface doesn't give mold a place to grow
  • It's grout-free surfaces makes it easier to keep clean
  • It's 100% sealed and never requires re-sealing, which makes it easier to clean. Simply wipe with soapy water, rinse, and squeegee dry. No scrubbing or harsh chemicals needed.
